What to Ask When Buying a Harley-Davidson Motorcycle

Are you ready to hop on the open road and feel the wind in your hair (or helmet, safety first folks!) on a shiny new Harley-Davidson motorcycle?

Well, before you rev up those engines and hit the road, you should know what to ask when buying a motorcycle.

Ask About Fees

First things first, let's talk about additional fees. You know, those sneaky little extra charges that dealers love to throw in after you've already agreed to buy the bike.

Used motorcycles, in particular, some dealers are notorious for having "reconditioning fees" tacked on. They usually add them to the bill of sale after you have agreed to buy “the bike.” No, they are not customary.

A customary charge would be "doc fees." A normal fair charge would be somewhere around $150 to $225.  However, if you get into the $500.00 $600.00 range, we are talking about highway robbery!

Ask About any Negative Customer Reviews

Next, let's talk about customer reviews. Before you make your purchase, be sure to check out the most recent Google and Facebook ratings and reviews. And if the dealer isn't hovering around a 4.8 to 5.0 rating, you might want to read those negative reviews to see if there's a pattern.

Ask About On-Site Owners

Finally, let's talk about on-site owners. In casual conversation, ask if the owners are on-site and how often they're around.

This might not seem like a big deal at first, but trust us, it can make a huge difference when you need something that the staff can't help you with or, even worse, you have a serious problem and a staff member says "I can't help you" or "I have to wait for the owner to get back."

So, before you make your purchase, be sure to ask the all-important question: "Is the owner on site and how often are they around?"

When is the Best Time to Buy a Harley-Davidson?

This is actually not a “Harley Davidson question” specifically so much as it is a question you should ask yourself, or your community.

The best time to buy a Harley-Davidson is whenever you need (or want) a new bike. When do YOU feel is the best time to buy a Harley-Davidson?

One can certainly grow attached to their motorcycle, however, riders may outgrow their bikes or look for a new experience. The best time to buy a new Harley-Davidson motorcycle is whenever you feel the itch for something different.

What is the Condition of the Motorcycle and When Was it Last Serviced

Another question to ask yourself and your seller is about the condition of the motorcycle. If you’re purchasing a used bike, ask for photos of any damage or wear and tear before making a decision, as well as when it was last serviced. Also, ask if there have been any customizations done to the bike.

If you’re buying new, find out if there have been any recalls or customer complaints related to that model year or type of motorcycle. It’s also important to make sure all safety features are operating correctly and that all parts are up to date per manufacturer specifications.

In conclusion, buying a Harley-Davidson motorcycle is a thrilling and exciting experience, but don't forget to do your research and ask the right questions to ensure you're getting the best deal and the best bike for you! And remember, safety first! Always wear a helmet!
